Could turn signals projected on to the backs of cyclists help prevent accidents?
That's the great hope behind Elnur Babayev's Cyclee concept, which mounts to the back of a bike and projects different illuminated signs depending on the rider's intended actions. Images are controlled via a smartphone mounted to the handlebars.
Accident rates per mile are 26 to 48 times higher for cyclists compared to motorists. In many of those accidents, drivers are to blame because they fail to notice a bicyclist or anticipate their actions.
An innovation like this could help bring those numbers down!
