Coach/Player dynamics are a hard phenomenon to explain.
The mentor/student takes on multiple relationship changes as games become more difficult and the stakes become even higher.
So imagine young Zak Irvin‘s surprise when his coach, LaVall Jordan, didn’t so much as acknowledge the fact that he spared his life from being hit with the raging speed of a passed basketball.
In fact, Jordan didn’t even bother as to flinch, almost as if he was ready to reprimand the young Michigan player if he didn’t end up preventing the ball from hitting his face.
And while you want to credit the kids mental toughness for keeping his emotions in check, you can pinpoint the exact moment his heart sinks in when he realizes he won’t even get a “thanks man” from the coach (who’s respect he clearly craves).
In honor of this heoric act, we thought we’d put the footage to good use. We do this in honor of Zak Irvin.
You da real MVP.
